Monitor body health is not always easy to do. One of them when the body experiences ketosis. Then, what exactly is ketosis?

Ketosis is a condition in which the liver produces ketone as energy for the whole body. Generally people experience ketosis when they do not have a sufficient supply of carbohydrates to burn. So instead the body will burn fat reserves.

Reporting from Men’s health, Monday (4/16), this condition will become dangerous because the body will produce excessive ketone compounds. In general, the cause of ketosis is a diet that is too strict, especially avoiding carbohydrates.

To find out whether the body is experiencing ketosis or not, there are four symptoms that usually appear.

1. Bad breath

One of the main signs of ketosis is bad breath. When in this state, the body will break down fats and proteins for energy.

"The breath has a very unpleasant astringent odor. This is a common sign that you are in ketosis and you are burning protein or fat as an energy source, "said Scott Keatley, R.D., of Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy

2. Fatigue

When you first feel ketosis, the body becomes exhausted from not having a normal amount of carbohydrates to burn as energy.

3. Decreased appetite

Some signs such as bacteria in the intestine change. It could also be because ketones affect the hypothalamus in the brain and cause the release of different hormones, making you less hungry in the process. Whatever it is, it is not uncommon for people to experience decreased appetite when entering ketosis.

4. Spend Lots of Time in the Bathroom

When you go on the keto diet, you start using fat to be processed and sometimes the body isn't ready for the process. This can cause diarrhea or a temporary disorder called steatorrhea, which causes very smelly stools. This condition will subside after you reduce the keto diet.
